yes, I am still here

Hello everyone! I did not forget how to blog, I have been slightly preoccupied with nothing.

Seriously, when I think about what has happened since my last post, nothing truly significantly blog-worthy has happened. I turned another year older, work has been work, kids came knocking on our door for candy, and we in the Seattle area have had our first arctic blast.

As I sit here I am hoping that my impromptu yellow cake with pumpkin medley turns out. It smells awesome. I would make my usual LEMON SQUARES but my fine husband used up all of the granulated sugar last night. I am sending him telepathic messages to pick up more sugar on the way home...or I could use technology and actually text him. Details!

I am done with a 99% of my Christmas shopping and our tree is up (not decorated yet). I counted the actual weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year and it is only 4 weekends - count 'em - FOUR!!! And that is being generous because honestly who WANTS to go out on Thanksgiving weekend itself to shop? What is up with Kohl's and Target opening their doors at 3am and 4am respectively on Black Friday - lawsuits just waiting to happen. Do stores not learn from the crazees at Wal-Marts across the Central and Southern USA? Not counting Thanksgiving weekend itself that leaves THREE WEEKENDS BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

Thank goodness for Amazon. I heart them and their magical Amazon Prime 2-day shipping. And to think if you had asked me 10 years ago, I would have totally laughed in your face about online shopping. I believe my exact response would have been "But going to the malls is part of the season!".... what was wrong with me?

Humboldt is sitting right next to me feigning sleep. The fire is on. Thanksgiving Desert #1 baking in the oven. Icy cold temps outside. I am still in jammies at home. Today is a good day.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Here's hoping I (gasp) post more from now on.
